He was promoted the same week HR dismissed my complaint
I was a financial analyst at a large investment bank. The harassment started subtly — "jokes" in client meetings, being talked over, having my work attributed to male colleagues. Then it got worse.
My senior colleague would send messages late at night. Asking what I was wearing. Suggesting we "get a drink to talk through the deal." When I didn't respond, he'd be cold and dismissive in meetings. When I did respond professionally, he'd escalate.
I finally went to HR after he cornered me in the office kitchen one evening when everyone else had gone home. I had screenshots of the messages. I had written records of the incidents.
Three weeks later: complaint dismissed. Insufficient evidence, they said. My screenshots weren't enough. His word against mine.
The following Monday he was announced as a Managing Director.
I left two months later. I couldn't walk into that building anymore. I've since spoken to two other women who had similar experiences with him. Neither of them reported it. "What's the point?" one of them told me.
She was right. And that's the most depressing part of this whole story.
